1.    Build a Formal Education:

·        Right after completing 12th grade from recognized board, choose Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Hotel Administration (B.Sc HHA) or a Bachelor of Hotel Management (BHM).

·        Alternatively, opt for specialized Diplomas in Culinary Arts or Catering Technology from reputed culinary institutes.

·        Obtaining certifications from the FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) is mandatory for higher management roles to ensure compliance with national food safety standards.

2. Gain Practical Training The culinary industry is built on experience. Your journey begins on the kitchen floor.

·        Industrial Training (IT): Complete mandatory internships or industrial training programs during your studies at reputed hotels or restaurants.

·        Starting as a Commis Chef: Fresh graduates typically enter the kitchen as a Commis III or Commis II.

·        Core Skills Learned: At this foundational stage, you will master basic knife skills, mise en place (ingredient preparation), station management, kitchen hygiene, time management, and teamwork.

3. Leading a Station

·        From starting commis chef move to Demi Chef de Partie and then Chef de Partie. Each step allows you master specific section like manager, pastry, or sauces.

 

4. Progress through the Kitchen Hierarchy

·         Once sous chef level is reached, skilled level up from cooking to coordinating by supervising staff, managing inventory and handling daily pressure service.

·        Sous chef are served as second-in-command to the Executive Chef. The responsibilities are assisting in menu development, training in the kitchen brigade, managing the inventory and manage day to day operations.
